Elevating the kitchen to the stature of the home
The canvas was a kitchen devoid of allure, trapped in dimness and with storage that was more disruptive than functional. There were two islands and little mobility between them. The kitchen did not facilitate an easy look to the family room next to it, nor privacy if the adults had guests in the dining room. The key challenge: create a space uniting practicality with understated sophistication.
Every detail of the family's day etched in elegance
The kitchen and adjacent spaces wouldn't just be rooms, they would represent chapters of the family's day. Every detail-from the innovative (and totally personalized) cabinet layout to the expansive island and dual dishwashers-was sculpted with care and purpose.
Design priorities included:
- Replace the two uncomfortable islands with one large, completely custom island
- Design the cabinetry around two (yes, two) dishwashers in strategic locations
- Create a discrete work area near the kitchen that could be tucked away
- Ensure visibility into the family room to watch the children
- Move the door of the butler pantry to gain functional space
- Provide structural privacy for adults when guests were in the dining room
- Move the back exterior door to provide better flow around the breakfast nook
- Turn the laundry room into the optimal landing space to drop equipment after activities
The Signature team worked harmoniously to stay on schedule
This project was realized just after the peak of the pandemic, and concerns around covid were painfully real for this family. Members of the household caught covid multiple times during production, but no member of the Signature production team fell ill. Every precaution was taken. The production schedule was kept, too, because of the Signature team's procurement of all selections and materials as soon as the contract was signed.
The big reveal was hallmarked by the utter delight
From the dual dishwashers to the champagne bronze trim around the firebox of the updated fireplace, the family's happiness with the finished space was palpable. With meticulous planning, inventive design, and selection-by-selection guidance, Signature Home Services integrated the look this family loves into a design that works for their busy household.
